What Is Personal Data at Kihon Technologies?

At Kihon Technologies, we are aligned and believe with Apple® and/or Apple Inc. philosophy of putting customers privacy rights first, and at heart of everything we do. Regardless of where you live in the world, you are entitled for fundamental privacy rights. Data that directly identifies you - such as your name - is personal data, and also data that is used to identify you such as serial number of your device - is personal data. For more information, you may visit Apple Privacy Policy. Aggregated data is considered as non-personal data for the purposes of this Privacy Policy.

This Privacy Policy covers how Kihon Technologies and/or Journal 4U app handles personal data whether you interact with us on our app, our website or in person (including by email). Kihon Technologies's privacy policy does not apply to how third parties define personal data or how they use it. We encourage you to read their privacy policies and know your privacy rights before interacting with them.

Your Privacy Rights at Kihon Technologies

At Kihon Technologies, we respect your ability to correct, access, know, transfer, restrict the processing of, and delete your personal data. Kihon Technologies does not sell your personal data or share it with third parties for advertising, does not use it for targeted advertising, and does not profile you. This applies under every law that defines these terms where Journal 4U is available, including as “sale” and “sharing” are defined in Texas, Nevada, Delaware and California.

Kihon Technologies does not receive, store, or have access to your journals or the other content you create in Journal 4U. Journal 4U has no user accounts, and Kihon Technologies runs no server that holds your data. Your journals are stored on your iPhone®, iPad®, Mac®, Apple Vision Pro™ or Apple Watch®. If you are signed in to iCloud®, Journal 4U also syncs your journals across your own devices through your own iCloud account. iCloud is needed only for syncing; without it, your journals stay on your device. Your journal entries are kept until you decide to delete them, and you have full control over your own personal data.

A few features send information from your device directly to Apple services. These are described in “Apple Services and Features That Send Data From Your Device” below. Kihon Technologies does not receive that information.

Personal Data Kihon Technologies Collects from You

At Kihon Technologies, we believe that your personal data such as journals belongs to you and only you can have access to create or delete it. Hence, we build a great products and services with great privacy in mind.

Journal 4U uses Apple technology, SwiftData with CloudKit®, to keep your journals in your private iCloud database. Because Kihon Technologies cannot access your data, we cannot recover it for you, and to the extent permitted by law we are not responsible if your personal data or journals data are lost, modified, or accessed by any third party, including through Apple® and/or Apple Inc. or your iCloud account. We recommend that you use Journal 4U's export feature to keep your own backup.

Your journals data are protected in transit and at rest under Apple's CloudKit security. In addition, Journal 4U marks certain sensitive fields as encrypted CloudKit fields for all users. These include, for example, the location saved on a journal entry, voice-memo transcripts attached to an entry, saved places, your profile name, folder names, AI chat messages, and mood data. Other content, such as the text of your entries, photos, workout routes, and some voice-recording data, relies on iCloud's standard protections rather than these additional encrypted fields. Journal 4U uses your private database to store your journals data. Hence, Kihon Technologies does not have access to your personal data or journals data in iCloud. Apple Services and Features That Send Data From Your Device

Some features of Journal 4U work by sending limited information from your device directly to Apple. Kihon Technologies does not receive this information, and it is governed by Apple's own privacy practices. These features are optional.

• Weather: if you add weather to an entry, your device sends its location to Apple's WeatherKit, which returns the weather for that place.
• Places and maps: if you tag a location or search for a place, your device uses Apple's geocoding and Maps services to find and name it.
• Music: if you attach music, the song title and artist may be sent to Apple's iTunes Search service to look up details such as genre. If you use Shazam to identify a song, data derived from your microphone audio is sent to Apple's Shazam service.
• Private Cloud Compute: if you turn on the optional cloud-assisted AI setting, AI requests are sent to Apple, as described in “AI Analysis & Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) Features” below.

Voice memos are transcribed on your device using Apple's speech recognition.

Permissions Journal 4U May Ask For

Journal 4U may ask for the following permissions on your device. You choose whether to grant each one, you can change your choice at any time in your device Settings, and nothing you allow is sent to Kihon Technologies.

• Camera: to take photos and videos to attach to your entries.
• Photos: to select photos and videos from your library to add to your entries.
• Microphone: to record voice notes and to identify music.
• Speech Recognition: to transcribe your voice memos into searchable text on your device.
• Location (While Using the App): to tag entries with your location, including precise location, and to add weather.
• Calendars: to link your calendar events to entries.
• Apple Music: to play music associated with your entries.
• Face ID / Touch ID: to unlock the app if you turn on App Lock.
• Apple Health: as described in “Health Data” below.
• Siri and Shortcuts: to let you create, search and read entries by voice or Shortcuts.
• Notifications: to send you journaling reminders and prompts.

Health Data

If you allow it, Journal 4U connects to Apple Health. Journal 4U can read your sleep, step count, time in daylight and heart rate variability, and can read and save State of Mind and Mindful Session data. Journal 4U uses this information to show you how your wellbeing relates to your journal entries, to record moods and mindful sessions that you log, and, if you use the AI features, as context for your AI reflection (see the AI section below). You can change what Journal 4U can access at any time in the Health app.

Kihon Technologies does not receive your health data, does not share it with third parties, and does not use it for advertising, marketing, or data mining. Data that Journal 4U saves to Apple Health remains in Apple Health under your control until you delete it there. Mood information that you record in Journal 4U is also saved with your journal entries and, like your other journal data, may sync through your private iCloud account.

Data You See or Share Outside the App

Journal 4U lets you view or share parts of your journal outside the app. Widgets on your Home Screen or Lock Screen can display parts of your entries, such as a past entry in On This Day, and they are not hidden by App Lock. Siri and Shortcuts can search and read your entries. The Apple Watch app and Apple Watch widgets may also show information from your journal. You can export your journals (for example as CSV files with media, or as a PDF) and share them through the share sheet, and reminders you receive may show text on your Lock Screen. Anyone who can see your unlocked device, Lock Screen or shared files may see this information. You control these features in your device Settings and in Journal 4U.

Keeping and Deleting Your Data

When you delete an entry, it moves to Recently Deleted for 30 days and is then deleted permanently. You can delete it permanently at any time from Recently Deleted. The Delete Account option in Journal 4U's Privacy settings erases your Journal 4U data from your device and, through iCloud sync, from your other devices and your iCloud. Journal 4U has no Kihon Technologies account to close. You can also manage Journal 4U's data in Settings > your name > iCloud > Manage Account Storage.

Deleting data in Journal 4U does not delete data you saved to Apple Health, photos in your Photos library, or files you exported or shared. To withdraw a permission, change it in your device Settings, or for Health data, in the Health app. Because Kihon Technologies does not hold your data, we cannot retrieve or erase it for you; these controls are how you exercise your rights over it. You can also export your journals and import a CSV file.

Analytics

Journal 4U does not include advertising, analytics, or crash-reporting software from Kihon Technologies or from third parties. If you have chosen to share app analytics with developers in your Apple settings, Apple may provide Kihon Technologies with aggregated information about how Journal 4U is used, which we use to improve your experience. That information is not linked to your personal data or identity.

Children

Journal 4U is available on the App Store for all ages. Kihon Technologies does not receive personal information from anyone, including children, and Journal 4U has no accounts. Parents and guardians can manage a child's use of Journal 4U through Apple's family controls, including screen time, purchase approval and content restrictions. If you believe a child has sent personal information to us, for example by email, please contact us and we will delete it.

Website and Email

When you visit our website, our hosting provider processes standard technical information, such as your IP address and browser type, to deliver the site and keep it secure. Our website does not set advertising or tracking cookies. If you email us, we receive your email address and the content of your message, and we use them only to respond to you.

Contact Us and Your Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, port or restrict the use of your personal data, and to complain to your local data protection authority. Because Kihon Technologies does not hold your journals or other content, you exercise these rights through the controls described above.
